A tree standing in the middle of a botanical garden. A stranger, torn from her original habitat. She observes us. We chose to tell you three tales about Tree and about humans. About some clumsy encounters – attempts to fit the deeply different perceptions, and reach out. Or, at least, to imagine it. Our human heroes are outsiders, like Tree. They are longing for connection, like her.
Ildikó Enyedi’s first film My Twentieth Century won the Cannes Camera d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 1989 and was chosen as one of the 12 Best Hungarian Films of All Time. In 1994, Magic Hunter was selected in competition at Venice Film Festival. Her 1999 feature Simon Magus won Locarno’s Special Jury Prize, and 1997’s Tamas and Juli won Belfort’s Grand Prix. In 2017, Enyedi’s former feature, On Body and Soul, won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale Film Festival and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Her recent feature, The Story of My Life was selected in the main competition in Cannes 2021.
