Guo, a non-conformist 13-year-old girl who lives with her aunt’s family, is traumatized by a fatal drowning accident that happened right in front of her eyes. Zhao You, a young boy with affections for Guo, witnesses the scene and unconsciously plays the incident into his favor. Wanting to escape her small town and reunite with her beautiful yet irresponsible mother in cosmopolitan Shanghai, she coincidently runs into a film audition that her cousin would envy her for if she gets the role. Through the turbulence, she learns to exploit herself in a painful way only possible for a woman.
